Schubert pool spared from closure

Montreal’s Highlands borough Council has reversed its decision to close a popular swimming pool.

The Council announced Thursday night pool Schubert will remain open, but cautioned the population taxes or user fees will be raised to pay for it.

The first borough Council decided in September, the pool will be closed, probably for a while, due to lack of budget.

Residents band together to save almost 80 years the community pool, gathering thousands of signatures on a petition.

“Since last Wednesday night, we were able to gather online signatures and 3,900 people who go from door to door and talk to the residents of the borough,” said Donna Ramaciri, who helped organize the petition.
